HOW TO: Style Curly Hair

How To: Style Curly Hair

Having curly hair can be both a blessing and a curse! In this video tutorial I show you how I style my mid length curly hair. My hair is naturally very curly (and get's lots of tangles!) but I don't wake up in the morning with perfectly defined curls - these curls need to be styled. But fortunately I have had lots of practise managing curls (and frizz!) and can usually style my hair curly from wet to dry in approximately 15 minutes.

What you'll need to style your curls:
  • Afro Styling Comb
  • Detangling/Conditioning Spray (or Water Spray filled with Water + Conditioner)
  • Water Spray Bottle
  • Curly Hair Styling Product - Gel, Cream or Mousse
  • Hair Dryer with Curl Diffuser Attachment (or Small Travel Hair Dryer)
I have found the best way to style my hair is when it's wet. So every morning I wet my hair and apply some conditioner and comb the knots out in the shower. After showering I wrap my wet hair into a towel and apply my makeup. After my makeup is complete I take the towel down and begin my styling procedure.

Create Your Curls in 10 Easy Steps:
  1. Spritz detangling spray into wet/damp hair.
  2. Comb with wide tooth afro styling comb.
  3. Spray hair with water using a water spray bottle to wet hair before styling.
  4. Lightly comb through hair after applying water.
  5. Squirt a small amount of Styling Product into your hands. Wet hands and rub together to dilute the product.
  6. Apply to wet hair using "raking" method.
  7. Scrunch curls with your hairs to create bouncy defined curls.
  8. Tip your head to the side or upside down and blast curls with hair dryer using a curl diffuser. Keep the hair dryer moving to prevent the scalp from getting too hot.
  9. After drying hair for approximately 5 to 10 minutes use hair dryer's cool shot to blast curls with a shot of cool hair to set the style and reduce frizz.
  10. Viola! Perfectly defined curls!

HOW TO: Depot NYX Jumbo Pencils

NYX Jumbo Eye Pencils
How To: Depot NYX Jumbo Pencils

Hello Beauties!

It's How To Tuesday! So it's time for my latest how to beauty video... in this video I discuss the major dilemma of the having too many NYX jumbo pencils in your makeup collection.

NYX Jumbo Pencils

The Benefits:
  • Works very well as an eyeshadow base!
  • Long lasting highly pigmented colour
  • 32 shades to choose from (a rainbow of vivid hues)
  • Creamy glide on formula

The Dilemmas:
  • Very difficult to sharpen because it's designed to fit with NYX Sharpener
  • Sharpened excess product gets trapped in sharpener (unable to use this)
  • Plastic cap often splits and breaks (or you lose it)
  • Base of the pencil casing falls off (often the glue unsticks over time)
  • Product seems to never run out! (extremely long lasting i.e The Terminator)

Depotting

I choose to depot some of my used NYX Jumbo Pencils because for several reasons:

  • Multiple application methods - slim pencil, eyeliner brush, cotton tip or finger tips!
  • They last longer as the product is stored in an air tight container.
  • No sharpening needed - Yippee!
  • Saves room in your makeup case especially if you depot into stackable containers

My favourite NYX Jumbo Pencils Colours
  • Hot Pink a medium fuchsia pink
  • Strawberry Milk  a pearly pink
  • Gold a yellow/orange gold
  • Black Bean a rich black
  • Milk  a true white
  • Purple Violet a purple violet
  • Ice Mocha a frosty deep cool bronze

How To: Apply Blush

In my new How To video, I show you how I apply blush in 3 steps; contouring colour, cheek colour and highlighter.

If you have fair skin I recommend choosing a pink blush to compliment your skin tone. For medium complexions with golden undertones, your skin will glow if you use a peach tone. For dark/tan skin tones the best blush will be a berry shade.

How To: Fix a Broken Lipstick

We have all had those beauty disaster moments, when our favourite lipstick breaks... Well no more tears because here is a technique I use to fix a broken lipstick so you can continue to use it directly from the tube.

1. Detach broken lipstick bullet from tube.
2. Wipe down side of lipstick bullet to smooth over any bumps and dents.
3. Put the lipstick bullet into the fridge for 10 minutes to harden
4. With a mini spatula scoop out most of the lipstick remaining in the tube and put into a small container
5. Wipe off excess lipstick from around the tube.
6. After 10 minutes of chilling, push the lipstick bullet back into the lipstick tube.
7. Viola! Now your lipstick is ready to use again.

The lipstick featured in this video is Countessa Fluorescent by Lime Crime.

2 Year Twitter Anniversary!

March 11th 2011, it's been exactly 2 years since I joined Twitter.com. I can say that since initially joining back in 2009, after seeing Sean "Diddy Combs (@iamdiddy) on Ellen (@theellenshow) talking about twitter and being positive, I now make Tweeting my daily dose of inspiration and motivation.

Following Celebrities and influential people on Twitter, gives me the boost I need each day to stay focused on my Goals and Life Dreams.

In the last 2 years in Twitterville I have gained 2,200 followers (my Tweetie Pies), sent out 23,500 tweets and replies and received over 30 Celebrity replies including Mariah Carey, Tyrese Gibson and Kim Kardashian.
