REVIEW: InStyler Rotating Iron

InStyler Review by Lauren Day

I reviewed the first InStyler {Classic Silver} that I bought on August 10th 2012. Unfortunately my silver in styler is dead.. This hairstyling device doesn't last long. (rest in peace!)

In 2014 I purchased a brand new InStyler, the new purple colour… And I love it. It's much better than the original InStyler I bought back in 2012. So I decided to put together a new review of the InStyler Rotating Iron.

I use my InStyler everyday (when I wear my hair straight - it's naturally curly) to create smooth, straight luscious hair. The purple InStyler is so quick and easy to use and it creates so much body and bounce to my hair! I absolutely love the InStyler!

Included with your InStyler:
  • 3-in-1 Styling Comb
  • Heat Resistant Carry Bag
  • Thermal Shield Training Guard
  • Quick Start GuideHeat Settings:

InStyler has 3 Heat Settings:

  1. High
  2. Medium
  3. Low
  4. OFF
Benefits of using the InStyler:
  • Adds volume and shine
  • Straightens and curls
  • Styles in half the time (compared to a regular hair straightener)
  • Quick and easy to use

NEW HAIR COLOUR: Raspberry Pink

NEW HAIR COLOUR!
Raspberry Pink

It's no secret that I love pink! ...And with the pastel coloured hair trend in full swing with celebrities like Jennifer Hawkins, Nicole Richie, and even Katy Perry adopting pink, blue, purple and even green hair, I decided to add some colour to my hair. You only live once, so why not!

This isn't the first time I've had pink hair. You may remember back in 2011 I had hot pink streaks in my hair for a few months. This time I decided that I wanted a magenta purple and my hairdresser suggested we add some pink as well to create a subtle multicoloured look.

My amazing hairdresser Alex from Capri Hair added a few pink and magenta highlights to my hair. She used Fudge Paintbox colours in Pink Moon (light neon pink) and Raspberry Beret (magenta purple). The result is a vibrant Raspberry Pink look, that I absolutely love!

Please Note: On the Fudge website Raspberry Beret appears as a true purple, but trust me it's more like a magenta colour!

For this look I am wearing my new favourite lipstick combo Calypso Cool featuring Napoleon Perdis lipstick and NYX lip gloss.

NEW HAIRCUT: Short Hair, Don't Care

Short Hair, Don't Care

I was feeling a little adventurous this week, so I decided to transform my look. I wanted a new hairstyle for Autumn/Winter. I was happy with my hair colour so I decided to be brave and make the change - and get a new hair cut.

{my hair inspiration}
I loved Julianne Hough's short blonde hairstyle in the movie Safe Haven. So I started collecting pics (on Pinterest, of course - where else!) of blonde bob hair styles that I liked to show my hairdresser. I found myself pinning ALOT of Julianne's photos. So I dug a little deeper and found this great quote from Julianne about her hair cut for the movie Safe Haven.

"When I had long hair, I always felt like I had to look pretty.
With short hair, I feel more fun and free."  - Julianne Hough

So with my Pinterest board loaded with hairstyles I loved, I arranged an appointment with my hairdresser to get "the cut". Keep in mind I hardly ever cut my hair. I suffered a lot of damage from hot styling tools about 2 years ago and having been growing my hair ever since! It's taken ages. OMG what was I thinking - all that time growing my hair and I was going to just cut it off - call me crazy but I really wanted a change. Well I am so glad I was brave and convince my hairdresser I wanted to cut my hair (and that I wasn't nuts!) - She gave me my Julianne Hough inspired hair cut….

BEFORE
AFTER

I am just thrilled with the results! I love my new bob and to my surprise Julianne was right - I do feel "free". I have had lots of great compliments from friends, followers and even my co-workers!

Do you like my new hair style?

Special thanks to my hairdresser Alex from Capri Hair for my new look!

HOW TO: Style Curly Hair

How To: Style Curly Hair

Having curly hair can be both a blessing and a curse! In this video tutorial I show you how I style my mid length curly hair. My hair is naturally very curly (and get's lots of tangles!) but I don't wake up in the morning with perfectly defined curls - these curls need to be styled. But fortunately I have had lots of practise managing curls (and frizz!) and can usually style my hair curly from wet to dry in approximately 15 minutes.

What you'll need to style your curls:
  • Afro Styling Comb
  • Detangling/Conditioning Spray (or Water Spray filled with Water + Conditioner)
  • Water Spray Bottle
  • Curly Hair Styling Product - Gel, Cream or Mousse
  • Hair Dryer with Curl Diffuser Attachment (or Small Travel Hair Dryer)
I have found the best way to style my hair is when it's wet. So every morning I wet my hair and apply some conditioner and comb the knots out in the shower. After showering I wrap my wet hair into a towel and apply my makeup. After my makeup is complete I take the towel down and begin my styling procedure.

Create Your Curls in 10 Easy Steps:
  1. Spritz detangling spray into wet/damp hair.
  2. Comb with wide tooth afro styling comb.
  3. Spray hair with water using a water spray bottle to wet hair before styling.
  4. Lightly comb through hair after applying water.
  5. Squirt a small amount of Styling Product into your hands. Wet hands and rub together to dilute the product.
  6. Apply to wet hair using "raking" method.
  7. Scrunch curls with your hairs to create bouncy defined curls.
  8. Tip your head to the side or upside down and blast curls with hair dryer using a curl diffuser. Keep the hair dryer moving to prevent the scalp from getting too hot.
  9. After drying hair for approximately 5 to 10 minutes use hair dryer's cool shot to blast curls with a shot of cool hair to set the style and reduce frizz.
  10. Viola! Perfectly defined curls!

Blonde Ambition: Another Hair Update

Blonde Ambition
April Hair Update

Today I had the pleasure of spending a few hours at a local hair salon with 1 of my favourite hair dressers. I got a rich red/brown colour (6.4) put through the underneath section of my hair. I really like having the contrast between the light and the dark colours it gives my hair dimension.

I asked my youtube subscribers to vote last month on what colour they would like to see me put through the lower section of my hair. Well I am pleased to say that many people did vote for my favourite which was the red. Alot of people voted for blonde too, but I felt going back to all blonde would have been a little more maintenance in the long run.

I hope you all like the final result!

BLONDE AMBITION: Schwarzkopf Nordic Blonde Hair

Blonde AMBITION
hair update

"Achievement results in work realising ambition."

Straight Success.
So after colouring my hair pretty much to death last year from blonde to pink to magenta to pink again and then red, I realised that my hair was really damaged from the constant colour changes. For 2012 I'm going back-to-basics and going natural (as natural as I can being blonde) with my haircare routine. I am no longer curling my hair everyday which was adding a lot of product into my hair not to mention the extra expense. In 2012 I am trying a new look and going straight by straightening my hair twice a week. I still wear my natural curls every now and again maybe 1 or 2 days a week at most but I have found that my hair is in much better condition wearing it straight.

I have been straightening my hair using my Vidal Sassoon Eco Dry travel hair dryer and a medium-size round brush to blow dry my hair from semi-wet curls to dry semi straight on medium heat. Then I section my hair and adding my favourite Macadamia Natural Oil's Healing Oil Treatment. Using my GHD slim flat iron, I smooth each section to create a soft straight look.

I recently used an at-home colouring system to touch up my ash blonde roots and was really pleased with the results. The product I used was Schwarzkopf Nordic Blonde Ultimate Lightener. It's made in New Zealand and only costs $9.95. I was happy to find an affordable hair dye that was made locally (not in China) and that  gave me the results I was looking for. I left the dye on for the full 45 minutes and the result was an Ultra Blonde which I am happy to say has only faded a little.

My New PINK Hair

Last week (for a nice change) I decided to add Hot Pink highlights to my fringe! Special thank you to my gorgeous friend and hairdresser Kathy Richardson who applied my colour for me. Since having my new "Pink Hairdo" I have received so many nice compliments from friends, followers and even strangers in the street.

It's a really fun and festive change and a true expression of my love obsession with the colour pink.

HAIR: Red Hair Colour

HAIR UPDATE!
New Red Hair Colour

Yesterday I decided to change my hair colour for summer! It's inspired by Isla Fisher's gorgeous red locks!  My gorgeous hairdresser Kathy added some red highlights to my fringe and also coloured the lower layers of my hair with red instead of the brown I had before. I am so thrilled with the results! I love having red in my hair it's really vibrant and something different for the coming summer months!
